WHAT DREW YOU TO KATONAH YOGA?

I was getting bored with my daily vinyasa practice and it kept feeling flat physically and mentally. A couple of my favorite yoga teachers encouraged me to check out Katonah. When I walked into my first Katonah class, my mind and body were pushed beyond their usual boundaries (in a great way). The practice has proven to be dynamic and ever expanding. It keeps me nourished as a student and teacher.

HOW HAS KATONAH CHANGED YOUR PRACTICE & TEACHING?

Katonah yoga has reminded me how human we all are and that we are just trying to do our best and keep it together. As a student, I'm gaining insights about myself and how I don't have to live within my propensities or my habits, there is more to explore and discover within my body and mind. As a teacher, I have a wealth of metaphors, narratives, and ideas to pull from so that students can live a better, longer and more informed life.

HOW HAVE YOU SEEN KATONAH CHANGE STUDENTS?

I've not only seen how Katonah yoga has changed people's bodies (frozen shoulders being able to have mobility again, legs and feet being used for grounding and standing, backs being ironed out to all four corners), but most importantly, I've seen students' minds change and expand. The body truly follows a pattern and is already telling your personal narrative and story. Once you gain access to all the parts of yourself physically, you psychology follows.

Yoga isn’t supposed to make you flexible—it’s supposed to make you powerful. It is powerful to be kind, it is powerful to bounce back, it is powerful to know how to soothe yourself, it is powerful to know how to fit yourself.
