Home practice is a life long technique for longevity and the development of an interior life. A progressive technique for self-knowledge and personal change, the physical practice improves over time, as our consciousness expands. A gateway to our interior life, a home practice opens up new emotional and physical vistas in order to deepen our resiliency, ground our nervous system and clarify our perceptual reality.
Join us this summer to build a home practice from the ground up, taking it step by step as we flesh out the practice, refine the technique of the physical poses, add props and folds and awaken our imagination to fill this well constructed vessel with the elixir of or spirit.
THE STRUCTURE (Tuesday July 1st)
Home practice addresses our most personal concerns of safety, self-cultivation and time management. In this session we discuss the thousands of reasons for creating a home practice, how life is enhanced in myriad ways from the endeavor, the potential health benefits that a home practice offers, its required ingredients, how to establish it as a ritual and the grace that comes from our efforts.
THE PRACTICE (Tuesday July 8th)
The development of a home practice is an exploration of the implicit; which is accessed by virtue of our physical poses as a construction in order to house something larger and more cosmic than our embodiment. In this session we discuss how to stay on your mat, how to develop the practice itself and what it takes to stick with it and stay with yourself through time.
THE SPHERE (Tuesday July 15th)
The refinement of the poses through measure, folding, fitting, and making contact with ourselves is how to create the stability required to move more deeply inside ourselves for a well rounded life. In this session we discuss how to address the nervous system, understanding the practice as a technique to manipulate the body to move currency through it in order to amend, shift and reform our interior.
THE TECHNIQUE (Tuesday July 22nd)
The refinement of technique frees us from our first nature; habits, compensatory skills, work-arounds, personal style which all make us easy prey to injury. In this session we address questions and conundrums about the poses themselves; what comes easy, what is beyond our individual capacities, what limitations we are experiencing, what injuries need addressing and what we can do about it all.
THE OPTIONS (Tuesday July 29th)
The ingredients of a home practice is an unbroken chain of repetition fueled by an irrevocable commitment to change. In this session we discuss how to stay with the sequence, how to add variations, advanced poses (more folds), simplified ones (less folds), options for those who are emotionally or physically challenged by the demands of the practice and how we build stamina as we stick with it.
THE SCAFFOLDING (Tuesday August 5th)
When the construction is stable, we can enter it with our mind, fill it with our breath and change it over time. Any discussion of construction includes finding support beams, assessing structure and shoring up the leaks. In this session we add scaffolding to our work, offering more reinforcement through prop work with blocks, chairs and blankets in order to stabilize and move more fluently through our sequence.
THE INTERIOR (Tuesday August 12th)
Once we have created the body as a template, the next question becomes what do we do in the poses? In this session we add the imagination into the form we have constructed by playing with various interior mechanisms such as the magic square, counting and cross referencing, all granting us the capacity to stay in the poses longer, stretching out the experience of the present moment.
THE BREATH (Tuesday August 19th)
When we train the body to be a set of boundaries for containment, we are ready to plant seeds of consciousness inside of it. In this session we add more breath techniques to our forms, for dimension, insight and volume. With the wraps for rapture we experience the breath moving currency through the circuitry of the nervous system as a route and we create that route with the narrative thread of our imagination.
THE NARRATIVE THREAD (Tuesday August 26th)
The endeavor of a home practice can be understood as a metaphor for the golden thread of our life path which is irrevocably underpinned by the integrity of our embodiment. In this session we weave it all together; the mind, the body and the breath, practicing the full sequence together, discussing how to maintain it over time, when to change or add or enhance it, and how stick with it for the long haul.
