CREATIVITY IMMERSION
Thursdays in September, October, November, December (2-4pm EST)
Price: $450 full program ($35 per session)
Early Bird Price: $350 thru 8/23
Creativity is not reserved for artists, it is the fundamental act of shaping a life. Living itself is a creative act and living creatively moment to moment is what forges a life of satisfaction and meaning. Creativity is the capacity for curiosity, the capacity to meet each moment with a fresh outlook, taking us beyond our first impulse, beyond our first nature. Being creative is a demand of the self, a demand that we go further than we think we can, into something unfamiliar, something uncharted, something undefined, to develop a solar nature, to shine. Creativity happens in the moment, the quality of presence with someone, or something that creates something new, that liberates us from our habitual ways of being, seeing and doing, that takes us to the next place, that transforms and expands us, that makes us stellar.
Join us this fall to explore the concept and nature of creativity. What it means to live a creative life, how to access more creativity in our day to day and how to harness the creative force that is available to each of us to build a life of meaning and purpose.
THE NATURE OF CREATIVITY (Thursday September 10th)
with Abbie Galvin
Creativity is our nature, we are all inherently creative beings. Oscar Wilde said: “To become a work of art, is the object of living." Other philosophers likewise have weighed in on what fosters happiness, fulfillment, a life worth living; and all agree in their differing ideas and offerings of techniques, that living a creative life happens on the daily, with the conscious intention to find and create meaning. We initiate our immersive journey into creativity with an exploration of how living a creative life is the secret sauce to a recipe for fulfillment, happiness and the capacity to love.
CREATIVE ORIENTATION (Thursday September 17th)
with Ty Watson
Creativity isn’t simply a talent that some people have, but our uniquely human way of organizing meaning and metabolizing our experience. If we think of it as part of our constitution instead of a luxury, then our practice stops being a retreat from our lives and becomes a way to participate more fully. In this session we explore the idea that creativity isn’t an output but an orientation that we can use to meet and shape our experience.
CREATIVE EMBODIMENT (Thursday September 24th)
with Evan McClain
What conditions expand our dimensionality, agency and spherical nature? Embodying the constellation of our present relationships demands the fluency of body and mind, creating the conditions for creativity to emerge moment to moment from our center. This session explores how our physical practice can move beyond another rigid and binary structure, towards a fluid expression of our interior landscape.
THE CREATIVITY OF CONSCIOUSNESS (Thursday October 1st)
with Chase Connolly
Becoming aware of an object within our perception, experiencing it, and its subsequent departure from our awareness is described as Spanda; the dynamic pulsation of consciousness. This pulsation is described as a constant act of creation. In this session we discuss the foundational concepts of this exquisite understanding of consciousness and how at every moment we are experiencing the dynamic creation of our own awareness. Through the use of contemplative and meditation techniques we experience the basics of stilling the mind to allow our innate creativity to move us through inspired action.
CREATIVE ALCHEMY (Thursday October 8th)
with Kyle Henry
Throughout history and across cultures, alchemy is a process of transforming, purifying and transmuting matter and spirit. Ideas, raw materials, life experiences, relationships and emotions are some of the very substances from which alchemical and creative expression is forged. Drawing on alchemical traditions from both Taoist and Western canons, we explore how to tap into our creative essence, how we hold the capacity to transform ourselves and our circumstances and how that transformation connects us more deeply to the world around us.
THE CREATIVE UNCONSCIOUS (Thursday October 15th)
with Jason Bacasa
Great Nature is generous with her patterns, but unmovable — never more clear than in the 24 hours she allots each of us, no more, no less. But what if there was a loophole, a way to dilate time itself? Every night in sleep we drop into a place where we "lose" time, and where our instinctual, vital, and creative self lives — arriving as image. In this session we explore dreams, patterning and sovereign images to widen that loophole, bringing its depth, and its creativity, back into waking life.
YOUR CREATIVE HEART MIND (Thursday October 22nd)
with Elena Brower
Steady asana practice woven with contemplative pauses and prompts opens something true and embodied in our creative self. In this session we take time in practice to dowse for what's shifting in heart-mind and write to unearth what's emerging, prepare for a project you've been putting off, or deepen what you're already working on.
IMAGINATION IN FORM (Thursday October 29th)
with Tiffany Sipos
Creativity is the act of using the imagination to generate valuable ideas or expressions. Rather than escaping reality of the present experience, imagery gives the nervous system a pattern to orient towards. Possibility becomes pattern and the body can inhabit a new way of being. In this session we explore inhabiting the spherical nature of the practice by diving deeper into the intricacies of the imagination.
THE ASTROLOGY OF CREATIVITY (Thursday November 5th)
with Sophia Campana
As the age of Aquarius dawns we are entering a fundamentally creative time that demands innovation, forward thinking and collective collaboration. The axis of Leo and Aquarius is considered the creativity axis, as it governs the cross reference between our primal creative life force and our visionary divine inspiration. Regardless of whether or not we have planets or aspects in these signs, these energies exist within each of us and we can look to these areas of our chart to determine how these forces emanate within us and how we can best apply them for personal empowerment and collective awakening.
YOUR CREATIVE CURRENT (Thursday November 12th)
with Sara Gallagher
Creativity emerges from states of receptivity. Kundalini Yoga is a practical yogic technology for changing your state. Through breath, movement, mantra, and meditation, it clears mental and emotional interference so our natural creative intelligence can come online. This Kundalini life force is our birthright and each person is born with this seed packet of energy tucked into their biology. The effort is to access this dormant energy within us. In this session we explore Kundalini techniques to clear the static and becoming more receptive to the creative currents of energy which is our natural state.
LIVING THE QUESTIONS (Thursday November 19th)
with Ally Bogard
Creativity is a way of meeting a moment with fresh eyes and participating with life in a way that feels more true to your essence. This session uses contemplative, somatic and inquiry-based practices to help you live into compelling questions, not to find answers, but to see how dynamic being in the moment helps to shift perspective, see yourself differently, and ask questions that move past habitual thinking into genuinely new territory.
READING THE SELF (Thursday December 3rd)
with Dages Juvelier Keates
Working through self-portraiture and somatic metaphor, organ systems recruited as a different grammar, a different way the self has been drafting itself all along. In this session we write and draw our way into a portrait that isn't confessional so much as forensic: not what happened to me but what has my body been saying, and in what tense. Expect metaphor as method, not decoration, the body as writing prop, the self as a manuscript in progress, and self-portraiture as an act of translation rather than transcription.
CREATIVE INSPIRATION (Thursday December 10th)
with Ty Watson
There is a myth that creativity lives in total freedom - a blank page, a lone genius, a metaphorical lightning strike. As practitioners, we suspect that there may be more to it than meets the eye. This session takes some of the most galvanising pieces of the Katonah Yoga theory - the ideas and forms that shape how we think about things - and traces them backwards together. Where did this come from? What is being referenced? What is this drawing from, and what is different about how we use it? We’ll see that information which gets inherited, remixed and reshaped stays alive, and that creativity doesn’t ask us to be geniuses, but to know how to continue the conversation with what came before.
CREATIVE LIFE CYCLES (Thursday December 17th)
with Abbie Galvin
Research suggests that living a creative life can be a tool for longevity. They were not referencing being an artist per se, but living with an open portal of curiosity and a life of learning. We express ourselves in each decade according to the circumstances we find ourselves in, choices we make, relationships we form, and how we create our identities. There is no expiration date on creativity. Creativity is a use it or lose it "organ", regardless of age, gender, or the state of our well being. Our final session is an exploration of creativity through the decades of our lives.
