HOME PRACTICE IMMERSION
Making Your House Your Home

Thursdays in July and August (2-4pm EST)
Price: $300 full program ($35 per session)
Early Bird Price: $250 thru 6/21

Developing and sustaining a home practice is a multi-faceted effort. A sequence of poses practiced daily over time can change our body, our nervous system, our perspective. A Home Practice is designed to take us inside ourselves in order to expand or discover or change how we experience our selfhood, and in so doing, our lens of what is around us. A Home Practice has to be created by each of us, uniquely. While the practice itself is universal, the practicing of it is personal. Our discoveries are our own, given our individual circumstances. We all follow the same map, which is explicit and finite, while our inner trajectories make the journey through it that is implicit, and whose discoveries are infinite.

Join us this summer for our annual dive into our home practice material. Together we will design, build and refine our personal abodes, fashioning our houses into homes that we can live in well through all the seasons of our lives.

DESIGNING YOUR HOUSE (Thursday July 2nd)
with
Abbie Galvin

A home practice is a behemoth. It develops, grows, deepens, and flourishes with time and attention. Any formal practice will demand a map, timing, measure and a way to move through its territory. Even before we begin, we'll discuss its purpose, its benefits, and the techniques required to nourish it. In this session we set up the grid and goal of our endeavor; to create a sustainable home practice for our stability, enhanced creativity and longevity, opening up a portal to a private practice that is repeated with refined technique, over time.

BUILDING YOUR HOUSE (Thursday July 9th)
with
Abbie Galvin

If we use the metaphor of building a house, our first task is to build its foundation. In this session we introduce the poses of the practice, like the framework of a house, exploring the sequence of the practice and its demands of our technique over time.

REFINING YOUR HOUSE (Thursday July 16th)
with
Ty Watson

The more options we have for each of the poses of our practice, the longer we are able to stay with ourselves. The more refined our technique becomes, the more information we can begin to access and use to inform ourselves. This session explores the variations, fits, folds and additional poses that one might want to add to their recipe of practice.

SCAFFOLDING YOUR HOUSE (Thursday July 23rd)
with
Ty Watson

Scaffolding aids the construction, maintenance and repair of a structure. In our practice, our props are scaffolding that give us contact, boundaries and information so that we might find and inform ourselves more clearly. Knowing how to use props, address challenges and self-adjust both pose and perspective are what allow us to change our angle, elevate our experience and organize ourselves.

CLEANING YOUR HOUSE (Thursday July 30th)
with
Ty Watson

A home practice brings to the surface a slew of questions, cobwebs, confusions and conundrums. Knowing how to address certain challenges, and how to develop and exercise one’s curiosity, is foundational to developing and maintaining a home practice. This session will explore trouble shooting and overcoming physical and mental obstacles and hurdles that invariably arise as our practice develops and evolves.

FILLING YOUR HOUSE (Thursday August 6th)
with
Abbie Galvin

Breathwork in the poses themselves creates the house as a home. The breath in the forms engages the imagination and our attention to stay present and to delve deeper inside in order for each of us to become a sphere unto ourselves. In this session we discuss breath techniques and routes that fill our forms. Filling the house begins a whole new level of experience and depth.

VENTILATING YOUR HOUSE (Thursday August 13th)
with
Ty Watson

As practitioners, our attention is part of our currency. The imagination is our most potent tool for keeping ourselves interested, curious and conscious. Finding new information in a pose, channeling one’s breath for a different atmosphere and percolating one’s curiosity are all potent techniques to stay with oneself. What we begin to do in the poses is what carries us over the threshold from the mechanics of practice into the rituals of being.

ORGANIZING YOUR HOUSE (Thursday August 20th)
with
Abbie Galvin

Any huge private endeavor includes obstacles, doubts, delusions, and demons to battle against. Most are of our own making, but nonetheless real. Some of our "resistances" are easily reconciled, others are long held patterns in our habitual behavior that are trickier to decipher and still others are relieved by sharing with others. All include the desire we all share, of safety. In this session we explore some of the pitfalls of how we are moving through, approaching, creating, impeding and tripping over our personal abode.

LIVING IN YOUR HOUSE (Thursday August 27th)
with
Abbie Galvin

We build a house to live in it and living is a repetitious endeavor. In this session we discuss how to sustain our practice over time and the expected plateaus we will face as we move through our daily practice alone, inside ourselves, with the redundancy of pattern. We will explore when to change it, amend it, vary it and how to do that without collapsing the home inside that we have built.
