WHAT MOVED ME ABOUT TEACHING KATONAH YOGA
with Abbie Galvin

First of all, I have to say that there's no other yoga that I would have taught. There was no other yoga that really gave me the experience that this yoga gave me. So I never had a plan in my career life to teach yoga at all. I always thought I would do something more academic. And I was a filmmaker and that was filling me up and that was great.

When I first encountered Katonah yoga, I walked into a yoga class and all of a sudden I heard theory mixed with practice for the very first time. It was really speaking to me that I could actually have an experience. Like the experience of knowing that your pelvis is your foundation of your personal abode, for example, That my pelvis is my stability. And I really viscerally felt that, Oh yes, these are the legs I stand on. This is about my stability.

It made so much sense to me that when we did warrior poses, it was really about lunging forward into life. It was about holding ground. It was about being substantial. It really made sense to me that your second floor is your volume, your capacity, how you handle your life. It was no longer just move your arm, turn your foot.

It was really about how you are moving through your practice is also how you're moving through your life. And that spoke to me.
