We use metaphor to bridge the implicit and the explicit, the internal and the external. Threading a continuous and constantly growing narrative allows us to connect our intellect and imagination to the corporeal self. It allows us to become a conduit of sorts, able to integrate the personal with the archetypal, the chthonic with the celestial, the above with the below. The Body as a Garden is an attempt to make the practice of self cultivation more imaginative and relatable; to step outside of the house and ask: “how do I participate in Great Nature in a way that puts me in its flow while wielding the tools to work it to my advantage?” The archetype of the garden is an evolving conversation that allows one to consider the patterns of Great Nature and how they intersect with the self - the gardener.

To cultivate our interior we will work with pranayama practices to allow us to tap into the endocrine system. The glands; a system which produces hormones that regulate all of the organ function within the body, your garden. We will talk about what the glands are, what they do, and why we work with them in the practice. With this framework in place we will move on to building our imaginary concept of what our personal gardens look like. The use of pranayama allows us to tap into the sensational experience of each gland while relating it to the overarching metaphor of the garden to build a relationship with the macrocosm through manipulating the microcosm.

You will be left with a new metaphor and techniques to continue to grow and cultivate your internal landscape. Growing a healthy and abundant garden takes consistent effort for continued grace. Once you have the proper tools, you will be able to cultivate your own will and, most importantly, joy.
